ARE YOU INTERESTED IN STUDYING IN GERMANY? THEN, READ THIS

Majority of us do not actually know that studying in Germany is way lot easier than schooling in other foreign countries. I never knew of this untill one of my friends back then in my undergraduate days enlightened me on the very enticing incentives Germany offers International Students.

Before my friend hinted me of Germany, i had my energy fully focussed on studying M.Sc Animal Science in the University of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in Canada. But, when i heard of the prospects in Germany, it was not too difficult for me to drop the idea of going to Canada because the German history is something i had always loved long before now. I jumped at it because it will offer me an opportunity to learn more about the Germans.

I must emphasis this before i continue, i am not a Travel Agent neither am i doing this for monetary gain, i only felt there is no need withholding very vital information which can positively turn around someone's life. Some people have all what it takes to pursue further Education abroad, but lack vital information and direction. Hence, atimes they can not achieve such aims while others are scammed.

Like i said, am doing this on a personal note without any cost, i am not charging anyone for anything, i am offering to provide you with detailed information starting from how you can find a course till you get a Study Visa. My belief is this; all the knowledge and experience we gain in the course of our educational pursuit in developed Countries will directly or indirectly be transferred back home, and with that, we will have more highly skilled and highly experienced Personnel to man the critical sectors of our Economy in the nearest future.

Why should you consider Germany?
Germany is presently the economic power house of Europe, it has the fourth largest economy in the world, the Country's Educational Policy is second to none with regards to "International Students", above all, it is very cheap for Foreign Students to study in here in Germany. By law, German Public Universities do not charge Tuition Fee, you only pay semester contribution which is less than 500Euro per semester, some Universities charge as low as 100Euro per Semester while some charge between 200Euro, 250Euro, etc. When you pay this "Semester Contribution", you get free transportation ticket within your State, this can also take you on Trains within the region you are.

As a Student, you are entitled to a work-permit, you can work 4hours for 240 days a year or 8hours for 120 days a year. That will provide a good financial support for you during your studies, on the average, Students spend between 600-670Euro/month, depending on how expensive your region or area is. Another interesting thing about Germany is, after studies, you can remain in Germany for 18months to look for a graduate job in your field of study, during this 18months, you can work as much as possible because there is no limit to the number hours you can work per day. That means if you coming for a Masters Degree which is a 2year programme in Germany, you are also entitled to another 18months to look for job, that means you can get a legal stay in Germany for three and a half years. Note: In the United Kingdom presently, Students are expected to leave 4months after their programme if they can not get a graduate job, but in Germany, you get 18months stay.

What are the requirements?
1. All your academic and personal documents.

2. For Bachelor Degree, you need a copy of your JAMB result to prove you have attempted University Entrance Examination

b. For those who already had a degree, NCE, OND, HND, B.Sc and co and want to study another Bachelor degree, your Academic Transcript will be necessary because it will be an added advantage.

3. For Masters degree, you need your Academic Transcript and (3) Referee Letters.

4. For Doctorate degree, you can make enquiries in the University you want to go to, by simply writing the University an e-mail. I don't know much about that personally for now, am not up to that academic level.

PROCEDURE:

1. Search the internet for a Course of your choice.

Tips:
a. Always use Google Chrome when browsing so that you always translate from German to English

b. Always check the top left or right corner of the web page of Universities and other German websites for the flag of  the United Kingdom or "en". This is where you can change the language settings of the site to English for sites that also have English web page.

c. Always write down the e-mail address of any institution and that of the Secretariat of the department your course is domiciled, incase you want to mail them later. They always respond to e-mails maximum 24hours after you have sent it.

d. When you e-mail, always ask them more about their Admission requirements for the Course, also ask **if you must pass through ww.UNI-ASSIST.de or if you can apply directly to the University. This is very important.

2. Now that you have found a Course of Study, the next thing to do is to apply....

After you have found a course, the next thing you do is to apply, you gather all your documents and make atleast (3)Photocopies of each. You take these documents to the German Embassy in Lagos for what is called "Authentication", though some Universities allow you to do authentication in the High Court, but most prefer it is done by the German Embassy. Please make sure you ask more about this from the University you are applying to.

3. The next thing after you have authenticated your documents is "Posting". If the school says you must apply through Uni-assist, that means you must first register online with Uni-assist, you also make an online application on Uni-assist.de before you now send the authenticated documents to Uni-assist here in Germany.

b. Uni-assist is the central admission processing agency for most Universities in Germany. To process your admission, they charge you a processing fee of €68 or so, this information is all contained on www.uni-assist.de

4. After Uni-Assist processes your document and if you meet up with the University's entrance requirement, Uni-Assist will forward your application to the University to make a final decision on your application, Hence, the University will contact you.

More info on this is on www.uni-assist.de

5. If your application scales through, the University will send your admission letter to you, when you get it, the next thing for you to do is opening a bank account in Germany. To do this, you download the Account Opening Form from the website of Deutsche Bank. More information on how you can download this is contained on the website of the German Embassy in Nigeria. After you download, you fill the form and take it to the German Embassy, you must go with your admission letter and other documents you have plus photocopies. The Embassy will stamp the bank form and send it on your behalf to Deutsche Bank. After the Account has been opened for you in Germany, the bank will send details of your Account Number to you via e-mail.

6. For you to get a Study Visa, the German Embassy states as one of it's requirements that you must have enough money that can sustain you for atleast one year in Germany. This amount is estimated at €8040 , this is what you will be withdrawing at a monthly rate of €670 per month for the first 12months after you arrive Germany. When you have transferred this money into your account with Deutsche Bank, the bank will notify you confirming the money in your account. The bank also notifies the Embassy too.

Note, the account  is a blocked account, so you cannot withdraw more than you monthly limit of €670.

7. After you get this notification from the Bank, you can now book a visa appointment with the Embassy, the Bank Account Statement, Admission Letter and a valid Travel Insurance from AIICO or some others are what you take along with all other documents you have got for your Visa Interview. Note, you might right a 15minutes test too on the day of the interview, the questions are always set on the basis of your area of Study. It could be secondary school questions like what is Osmosis, What is Reflex and others. You must also prove to them you know about Germany, the locations and her neighbouring Countries...

With all these done, i believe i will see you in Germany.....

I believe i have simplify this process as much as possibly, please contact me only when there is a strong need for that, like i said earlier, i will be more than willing to help you out on any challenge you encounter during the process to the best of my ability. For those who want to thank me for this piece of information, it's better you direct the appreciations to Mr Akinbodunse Victor, the friend who took his time to put me through while applying to Universität Bremen early this year.
